Well today [13/09/12] we started our 'Sculpting 101' AND FIRSTLY i now know how '101' came about, thanks Drew :)
we started sculpting and we was told we was going to create things that should be relevent to the project, so Drew firstly gave an intoduction to both of the clays that will be used, one known as 'magic sculpt' if i remember was used by the first years and in the packet contains 2 different shades of grey, oh one thing i forgot was they are called 'epoxy putty' and that is because it requires a fusion of 2 different materials to create a chemical reaction to make the clay! So that is why there are 2 different grey putties (not sure if its "putties" or "putty's") so you take the amount you want to use and 'mix' them together, but today we didnt work with the magic sculpt, we used 'green stuff' which is also a epoxy putty and consists of 2 strips rolled up one blue and one yellow (and ta-daa that makes green)
well firstly we made a bedroll (in english a sleeping bag rolled up into a backpack) and this was meant to be 'easy'. We had to roll to form the sleeping back, attach 2 straps going across the bedroll and a belt buckle aswel & also add detail. this waant easy as i thought it would be, because at first i was like "ha thats easy i use to mold with bluetack for years of my life" but they arent as similar as i believed, it took some timeto get use to having to constantly wet my fingers to stop me becoming a sticky mess.. we was given quite a long time to do the first one then next..
We had to create a back pack, the styled one which has a flap go over the top, this was easier as i was already use to the putty and felt confident using it & ENJOYED IT! Drew also demonstated how to do this
When we returned from our break we was given our final item to attempt to create.. a head and TBH mine wasnt no masterpiece but after watching drews demonstration it was a lot easier then expected, the hardest part of it was to create a head shape which didnt look like a dinosaur -_-" after today i dont believe i will be able to create the final scuplt as good as my minds image is.. although that is expected.
one last thing i forgot to explain the sidderent uses of 'green stuff' and 'magic sculpt' we was told that magic sculpt is sandable and carvable when completely solidified while the green stuff still has some flexibility to it.
it looks bettr by hand i just couldnt get it to focus!
